This artwork is inspired by the classic icon of The Good Shepherd. I love the significance in every detail the icon tradition has held. One of my favorite parts of this image is the Christian symbol in the cross of the halo. In the halo are the greek letters omicron (Ό) , omega (ὥ), and nu (Ν). It spells out “He who is” in reference to Exodus 3 when God revealed His name to Moses. This symbol has been used throughout centuries of icon writings and is a very sacred Christian tradition. “If someone has one hundred sheep, and if one of them has gone astray, should he not leave behind the ninety nine in the mountains and go out to seek what has gone astray. And if he should happen to find it: Amen I say to you that he has more joy over that one, than over the ninety nine which did not go astray.” Matthew 18:12-13
